What we noticed on the ground
In May of 2021 I was traveling across Texas and on a whim I diverted to visit a US Cavalry post, Fort Belknap Texas. Listed on Google Maps as a Texas State Park, I was surprised to find that the reconstructed US Cavalry fort from the Indian wars of the 1850's is in fact a county operated facility. Reconstructed by the CCC in the 1930's this US Cavalry Fort represents a new style of fort construction for the US Cavalry in that there were no walls or fixed defenses. There was really no need as attacks against US Cavalry forts was rare. Today this US Cavalry Fort is available to rent for large group activities. There are quite a few RV campsites that are available to rent 7days a week, provided there are no group activities scheduled.
