What to check when buying one used
General used-RV checks for a fifth wheel:
- Inspect accessible roof seams, windows, walls, and floors for water staining, softness, or previous repairs.
- Have the pin box, mounting area, frame, and visible welds checked for damage or unauthorized modifications.
- Have landing gear and any leveling system checked through their normal operating range.
- Check tire condition, tire date codes, wheel bearings, brakes, and available service records.
- Verify truck ratings, loaded pin weight, hitch compatibility, and cab clearance using the actual setup.
- Have plumbing, electrical, propane, appliances, and safety alarms inspected by a qualified RV technician.
- Operate doors, storage latches, and any slides or awnings; inspect seals and accessible slide floors.
